Kitchen 3D configurator: buyers see their kitchen before you measure

Made to measure kitchens are usually sold through several meetings, sketches and revised quotes. The buyer has to picture a whole wall from a small door sample and a worktop offcut. A kitchen 3D configurator lets them lay out colours and units on your website, so they arrive at the first meeting knowing what they want.

Short answer

What is a kitchen 3D configurator?

A kitchen 3D configurator is a tool on a kitchen maker's website where the buyer chooses the layout, wall lengths, door fronts, worktop, handles and appliance positions, and the 3D model and guide price update straight away. Trimata builds it from your own units and price list, so every enquiry arrives with a full specification.

What buyers ask before ordering a kitchen

  • Will matt white doors look too cold next to a light oak worktop?
  • Roughly how much more is an L shaped kitchen with an island?
  • Will an integrated fridge and dishwasher fit on my 3.2 m wall?
  • Handles or push to open: which looks better with my floor?
  • Can the wall cabinets go all the way to the ceiling?
  • Apart from price, what is the real difference between laminate, compact and quartz worktops?

What the buyer can choose in the configurator

Every choice comes from your real units, board collections and hardware, so a buyer cannot design a kitchen you do not make.

ChoiceOptionsWhy show it in 3D
LayoutStraight, L shape, U shape, with island or peninsulaA floor plan feels abstract; in 3D the buyer sees how much walking space is left around the island.
DimensionsWall lengths, wall cabinet height, full height cabinets to the ceilingThe buyer sees what fits their wall, and unit widths follow your own rules.
Door frontsLaminate, painted MDF, plywood, oak veneer; matt or gloss; different colours for base and wall unitsTwo tone kitchens are hard to judge from samples but easy to read on the full model.
WorktopLaminate, compact, solid wood, quartz; thickness and edge profileThe worktop and door pairing is where most buyers hesitate.
Handles and openingBar handles, routed grips, push to open, handle finishA small detail that changes the whole look, so it is worth seeing on a real door.
Appliances and sinkIntegrated or freestanding, oven in a tall unit or under the worktop, sink positionThe buyer sees the working triangle and understands where sockets and plumbing go.
Interior fittingsDrawers instead of doors, corner systems, waste sorting drawer, interior lightingThese are invisible in a closed kitchen, so the model can open them up.

Extras that raise the order value

Most of the gap between a basic and a complete kitchen sits in things the first quote does not show: full extension drawers with soft close runners, corner carousels, pull out larders, waste sorting bins and LED strips under the wall units. Buyers often drop them because on a price list they are just another line.

When the same drawer opens on the 3D model and you can see how many pans it holds, the decision is easier. The under cabinet lighting can be switched on to show how it falls on the worktop. The buyer is choosing comfort they can see in their own kitchen, not a line item.

The same goes for upgrades: quartz instead of laminate, or veneered fronts instead of painted board. Seen side by side on the same model, the price difference becomes clear and easier to justify.

Which 3D format suits kitchens

FormatFitWhen to choose it
3D configuratorGreat fitWhen you build modular kitchens from a fixed range of boards and hardware and want buyers to arrive with a ready layout.
3D view with ARWeaker fitA fitted kitchen depends on exact site measurements, so AR is more useful for single pieces such as an island or bar stools.
Renders and videoGreat fitWhen you need catalogue images for a new door collection you have not built yet, or content for social media.
B2B quote builderGood fitWhen you work with developers or interior designers who need specifications and a PDF quote for kitchens across several flats.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, if you give us your unit rules. The buyer enters the wall length and the configurator fills it only with unit widths you make, showing where a filler panel is needed. Your fitter still does the final survey.
No. Many kitchen makers show a guide price or a range, because the final figure depends on the survey and fitting. You decide what to show, and the enquiry lists everything the buyer picked.
They can, but it usually works better to show the 20 or 30 most popular and link to the full range. We update colours when your board supplier changes its collection.
Yes. The configurator runs in a browser, so it opens on a tablet or a showroom screen. A finished layout can be saved and sent to the client as a link.
